Most soft contact lenses produced from the various manufacturers have added a visibility tint to make the contact lens easier to handle. The tint is usually either light blue or green and will not affect eye color when applied to the eye. A visibility tint makes "finding" the contact lens easier when dropped ,especially in a basin of water. Insertion and removal of a visibility tint also make insertion and removal less stressful.
As the name implies, it's meant to enhance the existing color of your eyes.. Tinted lenses are semitransparent, light is reflected from the lens but it also passes through the lens and is reflected by the light eye beneath it. As a result, the light color eye is absorbing much of the light as well as reflecting lighter colored light back to the viewer. Their is a net accumulative effect seen by an observer of the eye color of the iris and the tinted color contact lens. Tinted color contact lenses work well in enhancing a light color iris but have little effect on dark colored .These types of tints are usually best used by people who have light colored eyes and want to make their eye color more intense. Examples of tinted enhancement contact lenses are Freshlook Color Enhancers contact lenses, Durasoft 3 Complements Color contact lenses, and Durasoft 2 Colors For Light Eyes contact lenses.

These colors are applied in a variety of shapes and patterns, with clear spaces in between, and mimic the natural look of your eye. The solid colors cover your natural dark eyes completely wherever they are present. The clear spaces let your natural eye color show through and blend with the color being reflected from the solid colors. The more color coverage on the lens then, the more eye color change you can expect Tinted color contact lenses work well in enhancing a light color iris but have little effect on dark colored .Examples of opaque colored contact lenses are Freshlook Color Blends contact lenses, Encore Colors colored contact lenses by Cooper Vision , Natural Touch /Elegance by Cooper Vision and Durasoft 3 Colors contact lenses by CibaVision.

Light-filtering tints are a more recent development. These contact lenses are designed for sports use, because they enhance certain colors (such as optic yellow, the color of tennis balls and some softballs and golf balls), as a result of muting other colors. The result is that the ball stands out against the background and is easier to target. The lenses can also be used by spectators. More are being developed especially for golfers, trap-shooters, skiers, and other sports enthusiasts.
Color contact lenses known as costume or theatrical lenses have also recently become popular. Long used in the movies for special eye effects, these lenses are now widely available for novelty use and can temporarily transform the wearer into an alien or cheetah, among others. Popular special effects contact lenses are under the brand name WildEyes Contacts by Wesley-Jessen Ciba and Crazy Lenses by Cooper Vision
